There is a reason people come back to the Old Fashioned. It is familiar without being boring, comforting without being soft. Every sip carries warmth, structure, and a sense of calm.
This is a drink for slowing down. For paying attention. For appreciating balance rather than spectacle. Made with care, it reveals layers over time, not all at once.
The Old Fashioned does not try to impress. It simply shows up, exactly as it is, and that is enough.
ARCHDALE RECIPE
Ingredients
2 oz bourbon or rye
3-4 dashes Angostura Bitters
3/4 oz Demerara Syrup
1 orange peel
1-2 cherries
1. Build
Add the demerara sugar and bitters to the glass. Pour in the bourbon and give it a gentle stir to dissolve and integrate before adding ice.
2. Mix
Add a large ice cube or a few solid cubes. Stir slowly until the drink is well chilled and begins to soften at the edges.
3. Finish
Express an orange peel over the glass and tuck it in. Add a cherry if you like. Let the drink settle for a moment before your first sip.
